As you head towards the Boulder foothills, you come across a stretch of land best described with large swaths of swaying grasslands intersected by winding creek beds – which are then adorned with large, beautiful trees. Such a scene reminds me of an enchanted forest in some adventure novel and it set the stage for the most exquisite and intimate backyard wedding.
In the same place as that of childhood memories, Holly married her husband Grant on May 17th, 2014, in the backyard of her parents home in Boulder, Colorado. This was no mere backyard but rather a glade that featured a home on it. Crafted by nature and refined by a family of landscape architects, this place was as much a joy to photograph as the wedding itself. Walkways of trees stumps and wooden planks allow you to enjoy what nature has created while leaving it intact. Benches are placed throughout the property and provide quiet vistas to enjoy. As the sun sets, paper lanterns and string lights illuminate walkways and places of gathering.
When inquiring on the details of this place, I was intrigued to learn that it had recently been ravaged by the fall rainstorms that left much of Boulder County in disarray. The photographs you see here are the restorative efforts of families working to create such a beautiful place.
More than just the photographs themselves are the stories and or meanings that lie behind them. Its the stories that bring life to the images, and its the personal account of each one that our couples will remember the most while peering over these pictures throughout the course a lifetime if not longer.
Amongst the many beautiful photographs taken at this backyard wedding, special mentioning should go towards the three generations of wedding gowns and the custom handcrafted bridge made by Holly’s father – which made for some spectacular photos of our bride and groom. No doubt that these images hold special revere and stories that can be shared for years to come.
The wedding celebration and feast took place under a white canvas tent. Long tables adorned with beautiful table cloths, various trinkets, and a stunning ensemble of flowers gave warm thoughts of summer family gatherings that extend long into twilight. You can make out the twinkling of string lights and the flickering of candles from across the pond of cat tails.
No wedding of course, could ever fully be described without mention of its most important members in attendance. Holly and Grant… genuine, affectionate, and truly elated to start their lives together. You both are such a joy to work with and we are privileged that you opened up your lives for us to see. Thank you for letting us photograph your very special day in the sun 🙂
